FAQs
Security Zone receives several frequently asked questions and we try to answer them to the best of our knowledge. Read our current questions and answers below, and feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
I’ve been told it’s important to test my system regularly. Why is that?
We always test new systems upon installation to insure they are working properly. However, phone line failures, power outages, or changing phone service providers can interrupt the security system signal or disable certain settings. After any of the aforementioned events occur, you should test your system for functionality and safety features.
How do I correctly test my system?
First, call the company monitoring your system (we do our own monitoring) at {need number to put here}. They will ask you for a password or account number for identity verification. Next, set the alarm as if you were leaving home, and wait for the delay on the door sensor to time out. Then, walk through the house and try to set off the alarm, allowing the alarm to go off for at least 90 seconds. Then call the company back to make sure they received your signal. If something isn’t working, call us and we will come out and service your system.

Testing Your System
Security Zone tested your alarm system when we installed the system, or if we converted your monitoring from a previous service provider, we tested all of your system components at that time to insure they were properly communicating to the central station facility.
Phone line failures, lightning or power surges, or a change in phone service (adding DSL or Internet Protocol service) may cause your normally reliable security system to become incapable of doing its job. We do offer other monitoring options in these cases.
Security Zone encourages all of our customers to test their systems monthly to insure their system is ready in case of an emergency.
Here's how to test your system:
- Call the monitoring company at 1-800-635-9754 to put your system on test or they will dispatch when your alarm is activated. They will ask for either your Account number or Password.
- Set system like you are leaving the house. Wait a few minutes to allow delay on door to time out.
- Activate alarm. Walk through the house and try to set the alarm off by opening doors and windows with contacts on them and walk in front of the motion detector.
- Allow alarm to sound for at least 90 seconds before turning off.
- Call the monitoring company back and make sure they received signals from your system. If they report no signals, please call us for service right away, there is something that isn't working properly.
